The Life Science industry has many skilled researchers that work hard and dedicated in their field and once in a while their research turns up an asset worthwhile building a virtual or even a fully integrated company around, often with the founder as initial CEO or CSO; eventually many founders return to their field of research or other functions and companies.

Successful start-up companies are driven by high performing founder teams working 24-7 and capable of taking in knowledge and advise  leading to an ongoing transformation  and thus adaption to the different challenges - often this is not happening, leading to failures and "catastrophes" we too often encounter.

Keeping up the motivation and promoting ongoing transformation and development is time-consuming and rarely included in the job function of board or investors. Neither is the feeding of knowledge and hands-on help in critical moments a virtue of boards or individual ad hoc advisors.
